Almost one million Australians are falling prey each year to identity theft or fraud, with scammers ripping off $2.2 billion from individual victims, businesses and governments.

The true impact of identity fraud in the community.  Burglary and car theft are very visible offences, whereas loss through fraud can appear 'faceless' .... unless you are a victim.  

Inter-governmental department arrangements are discussed in the related news article and provide the basis for the ongoing management of identity based crimes.  Non-government businesses, organisations, authorities and individuals are as much a target of these types of crimes (potentially in a less organised manner) and must continue to remain vigilant to fraudulent practices involving identity, identity theft and identity documents.
