Are we accusing the right person?

Document Examination Solutions were approached to assist in a matter involving 'cheat sheets' located during an examination.  Our involvement occurred some way into the investigation, when we were approached with the question: 'Are we accusing the right person?'

The authority had approached the person they believed to be the author.  Following vigorous denial by the person involved, it was decided that the matter required further investigation.  Our examination confirmed not only that the person approached by the authority was not the author, but identified another person as the author.

The matter was resolved swiftly following our examination.  It was an important outcome for the authority and the persons involved.

This case highlights that 'not everything is as it seems'.  Caution is required when making a self-determination about handwriting (or signatures), as an incorrect decision will have consequences.
